Final Week at Home

Last week was our final week at home for some time. At least, that is the plan. We took two and half weeks off before, during and after the Independence Day holiday. I like to handle tasks one at a time while Dave seems to prefer working on several tasks simultaneously. Here is the breakdown of how are two and a half weeks flew by.

First, we emptied the semi so that we could take it down to Bolt in Indiana to have some work done on the sleeper, replaced airbags and had paint touchups performed. I drove the semi while Dave and Rocky were in our personal vehicle. We left the house at 06:00 and did not arrive home until 23:45. That was a very long day!

Second, was our annual camping trip. The camper needed to be de-winterized including performing a thorough pre-trip inspection. Dave helped my brother with his camper as he was having electrical issues which took time out of our preparation plans. We did some grocery shopping and finally got our camper loaded up. The overall camping experience was very typical with some rainy days as well as some hot and muggy days. I came home with many mosquito bites but feeling rested.

After camping we had to go back to Indiana to pick up the semi. It has been my experience that whenever we have a long list of repairs something invariably gets missed. This was no exception; however, we needed to get home to get the truck loaded up so that we could get back to work. There will be another trip to Bolt in our future.

While it is wonderful to have the freedom to take time off, it is always a challenge to get back to work. It seems to be a double edged sword between home and the open road. We did get some projects done at home; however, we found that our basement was leaking. We found some mold growing as well. It was determined that the water was coming in from where the deck is attached to the house. We will have to reach out to a mold remediation company to determine what type of mold is there and create an action plan to take care of the situation before the snow flies.

I am sharing this with everyone to show that dividing time between personal and business life can be very challenging. We have worked so hard to set ourselves up for success only to experience a gut punch with one situation. We will get through it as we always do. This just reminds us that life is full of ups and downs. All we can do is take things as they come and handle each situation one at a time.

Here's to millions of safe, profitable and UNEXPECTED miles.
