Out With the Old, In With the New
Out With the Old, In With the New
Today is the last day of 2025. As I write this, thoughts of the year come to mind. I think about the struggles our business went through this year. The freight was hard to come by and the rates were lower than previous years. Tomorrow those thoughts will be left behind and new thoughts will begin. I think about the great things that happened this year like taking a vacation that we have never taken together or growing our family. While 2025 had its ups and downs 2026 holds so much promise.
Do you make new year's resolutions? Honestly, I am not one to make them. If Dave makes new year's resolutions, he does not mention them. What types of resolutions do you make? Lose weight? Make more money? Build better relationships? These are all common resolutions. The definition of the word resolution is 1. a firm decision to do or not to do something and 2. the quality of being determined or resolute. Synonyms for resolution depend on the context, but common ones include determination, resolve, decision, conclusion, solution, purpose, and steadfastness (for firm intent); settlement, verdict, outcome, or closure (for an end to a problem); and proposal, motion, or declaration (for a formal statement).
I'd like to add another word to this list. My word is GOALS. Do you make goals at the beginning of a new year? In my opinion, one can only make a goal when they know from where they came. In other words, one needs to look at the past year to set goals for the new year. Every successful business sets goals. The owner of a company has financial goals as well as goals for its employees. If the company succeeds in reaching or surpassing their goals, the owners and shareholders are happy. If employees reach their goals, there might be a raise and/or a promotion.
My goals every year are very simple. Personally, I am always wanting everyone in my circle to be happy and healthy. My prayer is that they have everything that they need in life. Professionally, my goal is to do better than the previous year. This also includes helping others to be their best. My biggest goal is to try to have a comfortable work/life balance. Being in business for oneself can make such a balance more of a dance. While we want to be happy and healthy in life our occupation can make that nearly impossible. 2025 was our first attempt at experimenting with a better balance between our personal and business life. We definitely made some great memories.
Here's to millions of safe, profitable and MEMORABLE miles.
