Unexpected Week
Unexpected Week
Last week was one of those weeks that came with many surprises. When this happens, things can either go very well or very bad. Fortunately for us, things went rather well. Have you had weeks where plans either did not materialize at all or unexpected plans presented themselves? How did you handle them? In the past, we would have waited until more expected plans would have presented themselves. Last week we decided to go with what came rather than waiting for what we would have hoped.
The week started out rather slow. We had an offer to escort two other trucks. Dave and I have done escorts in the past; however, we have never escorted more than one truck at a time. We were hesitant of accepting this opportunity as our previous experiences had not been very positive. Now we were being asked to escort TWO vehicles. On top of that, there was one vehicle being escorted by another vehicle. The customer was asking that all five vehicles travel together caravan style. This made the trip even more challenging. Under the circumstances, the trip went very well. All the other drivers were very nice and we managed to arrive at the destination early.
Another fun fact was that each vehicle had a pet of some sort. The other escort had a pet bird in their vehicle. We had never seen a truck have a bird that travelled with them. The other trucks all had either two or three dogs. Rocky had formed an attachment to some of the other dogs to the extent that when we arrived at our destination Rocky started getting rather anxious. It dawned on me that he was realizing that he was not going to see his friends anymore. So I suggested that Dave take Rocky outside to see that his furry friends were already gone. Once Rocky realized what happened he came into our truck more calm and relaxed. This opened my eyes to how quickly animals form attachments and that they experience loss just like humans.
While we were on our escort adventure the truck was acting up. We did not have anything else lined up for later in the week so we made the decision to go to our preferred Volvo shop to get a few things looked at. We spent the better part of Friday at the shop. We also made plans to have the graphics on the truck updated. We did get a load for this week as well.
One of the things we enjoy about our life is that we never know from week to week what we will be doing or where our loads will take us. While some weeks are slow, other weeks keep us on our toes. Hope your week was busy with work and uneventful with unexpected plans.
Here's to millions of safe, profitable and PLANNED miles.
