Work to Live, Don't Live to Work

Work to live, don't live only to work. As a truck driver, you have many hours of time behind the wheel, but you can gain valuable knowledge while you work. Audiobooks can be an excellent resource to learn a new skill. All those hours spent driving can be hours of information gained. Then when your driving shift is done for the day, you are almost guaranteed 7 - 10 hours off duty and parked. This time can also be partially used to learn a new skill. A laptop or tablet and an internet connection is all that is needed to increase your own knowledge of a particular skill. Unlike the audiobooks that you can listen to during your drive time, now that you are parked and can focus more on the information given, you can also get visuals on the skill you are learning about. After all those hours of learning on the road, when you return home, you can put those new found skills to work.
Once the truck is parked for your time off at home, get some dirt under your fingernails and some sweat on your back. Not only will you get some much needed exercise after all those hours of sitting and driving, but you will also feel better having performed the work yourself and get to experience that swell of pride that comes from getting the job done yourself.
There is an old saying that many quote the first part of but often they leave out the second, more important part.
A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.
Go learn something new, put those skills to work.
Work to live, don't live to work.

See you down the road,
Greg
