The UAW Strike UPDATE
***ANOTHER UPDATE***
The United Auto Workers union and Jeep maker Stellantis reached a tentative contract agreement this past Saturday. The deal, which still must be ratified by members, left only GM without an agreement with the union. Until today, that is. Details are still to come, but it’s being reported that GM and the UAW have also reached a tentative deal that will effectively put to rest the coordinated strikes which began on September 15th.
The Stellantis deal is s...

New IFTA Diesel Fuel Tax Rate Map
For years, I have created and updated IFTA (International Fuel Tax Association) maps. It started from a need I had to easily find diesel fuel tax rates for fuel purchase planning....
Driver Appreciation Week 2023
A simple “thank you” will never be enough.
I mean, what really can be said to the men and women who spend hours, days, weeks, and months away from their families while keeping America’s gears grinding in a forward motion?
This is Driver Appreciation Week, September 10th through the 16th. It’s a week where we, as the transportation industry, aim to recognize the collective trucking and driving community as a way of saying thank you for the jobs they perform on our beha...
Repair When You Cannot Replace
In the past couple of years, if you have needed parts you have probably found, like I have, that some parts are more scarce than others, but also that some parts will be on national backorder. The latter is the worst of the two because national backorder means no particular timeframe for when the part(s) will become available....
The Last Mile
Ever wonder if someone had thought of a way to help you that “last mile” getting to that shipper or receiver? Well, someone has it is an app named Dock411. The app does not have every dock in it but is sure growing. We first met the owners of Dock411 at the 2017 Expedite Expo in Lexington, KY. We have been putting locations into this app since July of 2017.
This app allows you to search by address, company name, or lat long. If the location has been put in you w...
A Rested Development
How many drivers out there actually pause long enough to give their body what it needs? In terms of a transportation career, something as simple as getting enough rest is a vital part of proper practice within the industry. Especially when safety is of utmost importance. Hence the reason for so much regulation, regarding sleep and hours-of-service, by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT).
For expediters, there is a fraction of drivers who typically don’t h...

Whether you’re a seasoned owner-operator or an independent contractor looking for your first (or next) opportunity to get into the expedite industry, choosing the right carrier to run for makes all the difference in the world. And seeing as expedite is but a niche to the overall trucking industry, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got all the information you need before making such a decision. Especially before you even get into the driver’s seat.
Here are several thoug...
Truck A/C & Heat Alternative
If you read my previous articles about Auxiliary Power and New APU Part 1 & Part 2, you know that I decided to try out a gas generator for many reasons over my traditional diesel APU. While the power source has been a success so far, I was interested in a quieter, more efficient HVAC alternative....
Inspection Needed
It may seem redundant to pre-trip and post-trip inspect your truck daily. I mean really, what could happen while you are parked for the night? You just performed a post-trip inspection last night, how different could it be in the morning? Very....
