Recently, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) stated that it will once again attempt to mandate speed limiters for heavy trucks and other commercial motor vehicles. While the topic is currently in its opening discussion phase, the initial groundwork for such a mandate originally took root in a proposal from 2016. That proposal barely saw the light of day. 2016 Revisited The 2016 proposed rule was jointly issued by FMCSA and the National Highway Traffic Saf...

Expedite Expo: Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Take this as totally unsolicited advice from someone who has, on multiple occasions, enjoyed what the Expedite Expo brings to the table. Not only in the world of expedite, but for the entire transportation society as a whole. Trust me, you want and need to be a part of this annual summertime trucking shindig! My first experience at the Expedite Expo trips all the way back to 2008, when my recruiting career was in its infancy. But the Expo had already been going strong for the...

Within the trucking industry, at least among a lot of drivers, there has been a long standing joke about spotting the elusive pre-trip inspection that every truck driver is supposed to do before starting their driving shift....

I should point out that day or night, whenever I drive, my headlamps are on, not just the daytime running lights. After replacing several headlamp bulbs (@ around $55 per set), I decided to try out some LED bulbs....

Finally, it appears as though someone is willing to step up to the plate and take a healthy cut on behalf of the American trucker. On April 14th, U.S. Rep. Andy Levin of Michigan introduced legislation for commercial drivers called the Guaranteeing Overtime for Truckers Act. Whether this swing is going to connect, remains to be seen. However, if solid contact is made, this act could turn into a homerun for truck drivers across the country. Where’s the Protection? Since 1938...

Once again the issue of speed limiters on trucks has reared its ugly head. Years ago, the issue of requiring speed limiters to be added to trucks was quashed. The idea back then was that if ONLY the trucks could be slowed down, it would make our highways and byways safer for the rest of the motoring public....

Nothing beats preparation, especially when your work keeps you on the road. Expeditors prep for many things like break downs and surprise critical loads. What about an accident? Eventually, it will happen to even the best driver....
